This looks like a good kite story to snack on!

That day I saw lots of things......

I saw lots of people working together to create a new event in California. A great group of kiters from all over California and even some from Oregon and Nevada!

I saw and felt WIND all day when everyone thought there would be none!

I saw octopus, birds, flying crayons and dozens of other things in the wind.....

I saw happy faces of kids and families making and flying kites, and more happy faces as competitors actually won MONEY instead of trophies!

I saw the NCKC and BASKL hospitality tent stocked to the brim with free goodies for kite flyers even hamburgers and hot dogs cooked by Pete Hartman.

I saw everyone scrambling to get kites up for the four mass ascensions....and collecting different color pins for their efforts....

I saw hundreds of kids running for candy cascading to the ground from a huge kite!

I saw that childish smile on hundreds of spectators faces as they watched the activities

I saw Ron Despoajdo win the hot tricks event with a Quad kite!... then try to sale the concert tickets he won!

I saw Susan Shampo win the ballet event with yet another cute routine!

I saw the new pairs team Avispados win the pairs event and take home 350.00 :-)

I saw pairs team Papalotes from Southern California break a lines for the second ... or was it the third time this season! Tom ... new lines buddy!

I saw Chuck wondering around with nothing to do!

I saw Tracy in the tent, Jeff doing a great job with the audio equip... AND Mike Weingand doing another great job on the P.A.

I saw Kobi Eshun overseeing it all as the chief judge.

I saw Tom McAlister stretched to his limits.. responsible for all the kiting activities as well as his mobile kite store.

I even saw Tim Helwig managing the single line field where people like Dave Gomberg, Rod Thrall, the Wrights and others could be seen putting up a great kite show.

I saw the Bay Area Sundowners fill the sky with their expertise!

I saw JR Toleman and Sharon Champie and a few others helping make some 300 kids kites!

I saw Tom take a huge crowd out to dinner at the Spaghetti Factory......hmmm good!

But I never saw one darn ELK that day!

Thanks KYMX radio for the great day!
