The 2001 KTAI Convention 2001

This looks like a good kite story to snack on!

Monday, January 15:
Dan W Brian T and I drove to Prim , we ran into a freak snow storm on the high desert! It was way weird cactus covered with snow ...a real blizzard!, in fact they closed hwy 15 thru the mountains just after we made it thru..

Tuesday, January 16:
Today is booth set up and catching up with all the kite folk.......Lots of activity and energy every where... fun seeing all the new kites....I'll try to get some pictures with my "pos" camera.

Mess

Mess in the hall as everyone is setting up their booths

Dodd and Brian Todd

Dodd Gross and Brian Todd helping set up the New Tech booth...New tech has lots of new offerings!

Those 6 kites in the middle are Dodd's new designs

Wednesday, January 17:
Spend most of the day in the AKA booth convincing folks to join and was actually kind of fun!

30 min till opening

Here's what it looked like 30 minutes before the show opened

My view

The booth right across from MY booth...all those Bali kites...some cool new ones this year

Go Fly a Kite Booth

Here's a shot thru the Go Fly a Kite booths, by far the most elaborate !   I'm defiantly going to get one of those Flamingos......those things are huge!

After the show we went to a party put on by the Go Fly people.....big crowd tons of food and gallons of drink!......I think I like this Trade show stuff!

Thursday, January 18:
Today was demo day! we got to fly lots of the new kites. I really like Skyburners new "Heat" this is a fast and trickable kite yet nice square turns and good lines.

I also helped a pal from Canada, Yeves La Forest, decide  on a good entry level kite to carry  in his store

Yeves LaForest, Friend, and Tom Mcalister

Yeves LaForest  (on right with hat) and his friend  Jean watch while Tom Mcalister tested the "Ticket"  from Avia

We also tested the Alpha plus and tried to test Dodds new kites, but by the time we got to him he was shooting a fit and putting his kites away and tossing things about. He really had his undies in a bunch! So I cant say what they are like!

Skyburner Rok

A surprise entry from Skybuner, An ultra light 4ft Rok.... great looking and made to stack . they have a trick bridle that allows them to be stacked in seconds....I'm gonna have to have a stack of these!

Konrad

Konrad in the Laser Pro booth.  Konrad has generously sponsored me and our Pairs team for quite some time now.. Thanks Konrad, We love Laser Pro and will continue to use it!

Tomorrow the show closes at noon..... Then Saturday there will be more kite testing a few miles from here on the desert., this should be way better than the parking lot, Maybe Dodd will be in a better mood and let us try his kites!!.....then three of us plan to goof off here and in Vegas before we head home Monday

Friday, January 19:
Show closed at noon and what a riot watching all these booths coming down and the activity as everyone races to pack it all up

Plane Crash

This is a pile next to the go fly booth....looks like a crash crash scene!

Flying Lady

Had to get a shot of the flying lady before they took her down

Banquet tonight, should be fun...another kite party!  They will announce all the winners of the various categories........I know who should get best snacks.......wouldn't ya know it!

Saturday, January 20:
Spent the entire day out on Roach dry lake with the land sailors and the buggiers buzzing about.

The day started with little or no wind with guys in back of cars and trucks flying kites as the cars drove all over the lake...it was kinda cool even a little pairs action!

Some one brought a huge box of rockets and rubber band launchers so there was a huge war till the wind came up around 11:30 it hit......

Skyburner Rok stack

Got a picture of the Skyburner stack of ROKs before the wind went ballistic.....In just a few minutes the wind went from nothing to 18 to 21 ....but tons of kites took to the skies. And the buggiers and land sailors took off.

Mark Reed trying a land yacht

Most of the pictures I took out there today were pretty lousy so I'll spare ya the pain! I did get this one of Mark Reed buckling in for his first ride on a land sailor......he took right off and in just a few minutes was zooming around like a pro..and he had a strange grin plastered on his face

Monday, January 22:
Back home and back to work.....

Tasty!
