April thru June 2001

April 1 On Sunday we will be attending the "April Fools fun fly at Shoreline" park in Mountain View. BASKL will host Free flight Schools by Dodd Gross. Come meet him, learn about BASKL, enjoy free sodas and munchies....join in on a fighter line touch battle

The April Fools Fun fly with Dodd was a great success, everyone had fun, even Dodd. He taught flight schools all day long!  No one was left out! The wind blew all day the music played and John blew 15 pounds of potatoes through his potato cannon!

Click here for pictures of the day. Thanks to Gone with the wind!
NOTE: Dan has since changed that page with the pictures...but its still worth a trip to GWTW to see his new web site.

April 7-8 I'm going to try to do the Roseville kite festival Saturday. Sunday is a BASKL meeting at my place then maybe fly at Berkeley.

Busy, busy weekend, I'll be doing both events!

April 21 BASKL event at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale...check out the BASKL site for directions.  We had a good turn out, even  few new fliers!

April 22

Lee Toy fly  in SF , at the Marina Greens....NCKC monthly fly and Mystery kite judging...AND big ass BBQ, bring a dish or desert and something to drink.

A real good day, The BBQ was fantastic, the wind was a little strong and the greens a little small but we had fun  AND my kite won the mystery bag kite contest....really! See picture above "blue and yellow" Cross deck kite (Feb 25).

April 28

I'll be hosting the 4th No Politics No Whiners Kite making workshop in Berkeley, this time Darci and Andy Sowers will show us how to make a Circoflex kite!...all the info on the kitemakeing page...sorry registration is closed.

SPECIAL NOTE:  The workshop will have to be moved to Sunday the 29th....the city is using he room Saturday for some "Save the Bay" activities and we have been bumped out!

What a great day, Darci and Andy Sowers did a magnificent job conducting this workshop, their team work and preparation was first rate! They even had prepared a printed booklet of instructions and tuning tips. Truly a first class workshop! Here is a picture of 6 of the 9 kites born that day......mine is the black and white one on the left.   We finished em and ran out to the field (Berkeley) and flew em, most with little or no tuning!

April 30 I'll be helping hang some kites for the Crissy field dedication banquet.

May 5

I'll be attending the Crissy field "pre- party" and slide presentation. Local kiters are invited to come meet the 20 invited guests!

The presentations by the guests were Awesome, Slides included their kites and Art installations... Pretty cool stuff indeed!

May 6

I will be attending the Crissy Field {San Francisco) Festival....The City has spent a TON of money  on this event and block party ..and I wouldn't miss it!

Sunday was a great day, the weather and wind was as good as it gets (there!)  Air show was good and the kites were everywhere. Guests kites were worth the effort to get there.....The Parking pass was a godsend. Thanks Ivy! There musta been 60 or 70 thousand people enjoying the kites!  The gave away 9 thousand yellow diamond kites...most of them were in he sky in the afternoon...what a sight!   I'll try to get some pictures or links to some .  I had a blast...and didn't have to work my butt off for a change!

Dan has ton of pictures up now check em out: Crissy Field Pictures
Aaron has three pages too!

May 12-13

Dan Whitney, Sharon and I will be playing at the Marina festival near Monterey California should be great weather for this one too! .http://marinafestival.com

We are having great fun here! its cool  (feels good after a week or so of 90s at home!) and the wind is ok, kites up all day ..dozens of em!  More tomorrow! I'll try to remember to take a couple pictures!

Sunday was good too, the wind wasn't as good as yesterday but We still had kites in the air all day long....

Here are some pictures from the days event:

Marina Festival was a fun weekend and the new location was nearly perfect for it and the people were great!  I'm going  next year for sure...put it on your calendars!

May 19 I'm going to go help out and fly at the Newark family kite day, Miguel is out of town so we can't do Avispados demos as promised but should be a fun day

This was a nice little festival, for their first time out they did real good, kids running all over the place with kites!

The wind in Newarks Silliman park is blocked on three sides of the park so you can imagine what its like to fly a kite!  If you can get it above the buildings like we did with the Pyros ... No problem!

I have been answering questions and helping the organizer since January, a nice guy with more energy and excitement for kiting than Id seen in a while.  SO when he asked me if Id do demos I said sure ,of course!  I'll even bring my pairs partner and we can do pairs demos!  Well, when I arrived he showed me to my field....where I would be doing demos......HE meant Lessons! I had my own lessons field.....with NO help!  Geese!  Thank god for Dan Burnham ,he volunteered to help out and we got thru the day.... Good thing Miguel couldn't make it...he'd never forgive me!

May 27-28

Don't miss the fun!

Plan on joining us at the San Ramon Wind fest, California's largest fun fly, come do demos or just watch. Check here for all the info and who is coming: San Ramon Art and Wind Festival 2001

The San Ramon event was a huge success, everyone enjoyed themselves and the crowd came and sat  al day on the burn that surrounds the down wind side of the field ! Everything went smoothly (except for the wind) and the party at my place on Sunday was a real food fest.. Those of you that chose not to attend really missed a good time.

June 9 &10 No kite flying for me this weekend, gotta work! I almost never work on weekends anymore .... But this weekend I will be building a redwood patio cover for Andy my web guy....... here's a couple pictures how I spent the weekend!

June 16 I'll  be doing the BASKL at Martinez event. This one is always a fun and lay back event....come on out and play with us. Directions and  more info is available at the BASKL website.

June 17

Fathers day fly in Benicia...meet me at that little grass park at the foot of Main street, Lets see how many kites we can get up!

Turnout for the fathers day fly was disappointing...  The wind was nice all day then around 6 just petered out.....Most of the rest of the bay area was hotternell but the breeze coming up the straight was nice and cool.

June 22 Went to a Family deal and took a picture of my long lost twin (hadn't seen him in two or three years) here is a picture of him for those that are curious.

June 23

I'll be at the NCKC monthly fly at Limontour beach, Olema Ca.  I don't get enough beach flying and am looking forward to this!

Limontour is not a great place to fly a kite!. The fun meter was way down for me on this one, the beach is situated so the wind comes off the dunes and blows out to sea...we are talking choppy ,swirly, and generally miserable to fly in. almost nothing would stay up! If ya missed this one your probably better off!

June 29-30 & July 1 Miguel and I will be going to the Northwest Challenge in Long beach Washington.
