| May 4 | The GWTW Chico fly day sounds like fun! Besides I need a kite store
fix! So I'm headed up there early Saturday morning... Had fun even the wind didn't blow... I had to come home late Saturday night but the rest played on... Here is a link to Dan's photos and his sad story: "Chico Fly 5/4-5/5/02". Dan always does a good job with his photo journals, thanks Dan

| May 11 | BASKL tries a new park! Chrissy Field in San Francisco.
Come on out
and enjoy the day and the view! The Chrissy Field event went great! The winds were a bit goofy but we did have wind all day! BASKL will for sure return to this venue. IT has to be one of the most picturesque places to fly a kit anywhere! You are nearly under the Golden Gate Bridge, with Alcatraz Island just off the beach. The Bay was alive with sail boats ships and kite boarders and wind surfers. Of course the San Francisco skyline in the background... O yea the park is HUGE BASKL never had so much room to play!! BASKL operations tent with the Golden Gate Bridge as a back drop!

| May 12 | Sorry MOM,
I'm
going to the Marina Festival right after the BASKL event. I had a
great time at this event last year and am looking forward to forward to this
year! Marina is just north of Monterey, they will have vendors, food, Kites and live music all day! After the BASKL event I raced to Marina, with side trip to Castroville for dinner at the best BBQ place on the planet, we arrived around 8 and checked in, soon I could hear loud voices outside... sure enough it was Dan Whitney, Jim Strealy and JR Tolman. After catching up and hearing all about the babes that were at the place they ate at... (I'll still take that BBQ!) we turned in for the night. The turned out blue skied and warm. The folks that run this event are the nicest people and welcomed us warmly and even had gifts for us! The GWTW booth was a hot spot all day. There was a steady crowd all day long of festival goers. The bandstand rocked with several different bands, its nice to fly to live music and it really helped with the festival atmosphere! That pesky giant bee was seen hovering around all the babes! Sometime in late afternoon this cloud started to turn colors, it started at the bottom and grew upwards larger and larger. I don't know what to call this phenomenon but it was very cool. I was not the only in the park that had never seen anything like it... the photo barely shows the bright colors it showed. It stayed in the sky for around 20 minutes or so maybe longer. Some one called it a Sundog...others said sundogs are only around or near the sun. Whatever they call it it was very cool and had everyone in the park ewwing and awwwing! Steve Hall flying triads and pop cans. My 252 flying proudly on that line with loop! JR Tolman was in the kite making tent with a crew of volunteers making kids kites all day long, the little kimono kites came in small swarms at a time and was fun to see the kids running in every direction, sometimes even in the right direction! Also in the same tent they were making these big tissue paper balloons and launching them from a heating apparatus. Cool tissue paper balloons being heated up, note propane tank underneath, there was some kinda burner inside, they held the balloons on stand for a couple minutes and just let em go. It was fun seeing these things leave the park all day long. Here's one of those balloons floating away. This group also shot off model rockets ,that were crowd pleasers as well. Dan had his octopus up most of the day and I alternated between the crown and the 252 as most big stuff need attending in the fluky winds. The pyros and other single line stuff we put way up and the wind was nice and steady. We all had fun, worked on our tans and aired out our toys! I have a bunch of San Ramon photos to put up but have been so busy (and tired). In the mean time you can check out the photos posted to the GWTW forums. There is even a full length video of my now infamous "Tip Toe thru the Tulips" routine in a pink Tutu! Dan Whitney put up a great page of photos. The GWTW folks (Chris and Steve) put up 5 pages of good photos. You can check em out here.
