AKA quilt  Here is the Auction quilt that Robin and Mira made!

Sept. 30 We are here! I have to say that this place is great! The town is great, the beach is cool and the winds are excellent! The town is bulging with Kiter's already and tons of familiar faces! I didn't take many photos today, but I managed to get a  few photos in.

Sept. 27 The Earthlink web host server was down all day,  first time since I moved to them...

Sept. 25 4 days till I leave for Ocean City Maryland for the AKA convention and Nationals... this is the 25th annual and there is lots of special stuff planned for the week! Hope you are planning on attending too!

Sept. 16

We had a great time in Canada! Even the traveling was uneventful this trip tho always a hassle. The club (the Toronto kite fliers) and the organization that puts on the festival took great care of us every minute! We went from one feeding to the next, each being better than the last... I know ya will never starve in Canada! The hotel was first rate as well. Friday we had a press conference, complete with pomp and circumstance, glad they chose Susan Shampo to represent the U.S. as I was plenty comfy just watching!!

By the way it is not sponsored by Air Canada anymore, this years festival was sponsored by an Insurance company and is being called "The Industrial Alliance Kite Festival" doesn't exactly roll of the tongue, but was a great time! United Airlines (a US company) was also a major sponsor as was Pepsi...... man I wanna know how they get those biggies to sponsor!

Here is the poster for the event. United Airlines donated thousands of these little kites, there was literally hundreds in the sky all day.. even when our high tech kites wouldn't fly!! When the event was over , as soon as we gave up the fields they swarmed in by the hundred running in all directions and having a ball! There were even different colors from years past! I got a couple xtras in the raffle, or "Lucky Draw" as they call em, so look for em in "Lucky Draws" here soon!

After we went to a beach on lake Ontario and flew for more media till the winds whipped up the sand and it wasn't fun anymore .They loaded us all up and off we went to a great outside bar called The Docks, this place was across a little bay from the city and had a awesome view of the city..  After we got a sample of Canadian traffic the highway at commute are every bit as clogged as ours, maybe worse... it took forever to get back to the hotel for cleaning up so we could blast off to the biggest and best buffet Id ever seen, a place called Frankie Tomato's... un believable! Saturday dawned clear, breakfast done and off we went to the festival site! Now this park is big and beautiful, even has lakes and gardens and everything a park needs and way more...it is however surrounded with trees!! We knew we were in for a challenging day! the winds were shifty and up and down but NOT all that bad really...heck some of have flown on a side walk in Colombia, this was near heaven compared! We may as well have been in a foreign land, as the folks that put the event on is the Toronto Chinese businessman's organization! all the vendors were Chinese foods and products and the crowd was entirely Chinese! These people were friendly, inquisitive and appreciative!

Its great to go WAY out of town to a kiting event once in awhile because you get to see kites, different kites way different kites, I really enjoyed the variety of kites that showed up!!   We were shuttled back to the hotel and given about 40 minutes to clean up and be ready for yet another feeding frenzy.... this time at a Chinese restaurant for a authentic 12 course meal and more pomp! It rained no it poured, frog strangling rain all night that night and we worried what would happen in the morning. No problem, no rain in the am... now that's planning!

Sunday was light wind all day but what there was was way smoother the day was more relaxing, more mingling with the other kiter's...at the end of the day we had dinner at a Vietnamese place and went to Lam Hoac's place for some beers and laughs. Manny thanks to every one involved with this event and especially Merv Cooper, Gary Mark and the Toronto kiter's president Don Brownridge for all the shuttling around and tour guiding!  I forgot the camera in the hotel room on Sunday, so I have only images from Friday and Saturday...

Sept. 12 I'm headed to Toronto Canada for the Air Canada festival. This will be my first time in Canada! I'm looking forward to it!.... I won't take the laptop with this time (I'm not sure I could get on line from there anyway!), but I will take photos and share em when I get home!

Sept. 8th Did the Sonoma Kite Festival today, kinda wished I'd stayed home!! Fields were crappy and had high weeds (fun tangling with the fly lines) winds were real crappy till about three o'clock , about the same time some Irate women marched up and demanded we turn off or way down the sound system because it was bothering her, even tho the park was full of people enjoying their day AND our music she insisted we quit. so we did! shut it off and packed it away......the organizer of the event also had the foresight to collect stuff and have his own raffle and auction (our deal was wed bring the equip and run it all day in exchange for us running a raffle ) to help guarantee that our raffle would be lousy, helped to make it a "special "day I will remember next year when he asks if we will bring all of our festival equipment and work our butts off to make his festival...and I'm assuming raffle better!  I took a few photos and will try to put em here soon....don't look for ME there next year....it has to be fun RIGHT?

Here are the only photos I took in Sonoma.
