| Feb 22 | BASKL's first indoor competition was today!
It was a great success, we had 21 registered fliers and several that just
wanted the indoor practice. We practiced for 3 hors first and then got
serious! 21 fliers did their first indoor ballets, and many were very good!
Ron Despojado took the first place, Aaron Champie the second, and
Darrin Skinner the third... ME? Well I have the distinction of not
only being BASKL's first indoor competitor, but also the first to be DQ'd! Yes my kite went over the dreaded boundary and I was spanked harshly for
it.....sigh! For those of you interested, I took a ton of photos and they

BIRTHDAY!!

| Feb.9 | The BASKL fighter kite build was good
fun! Steve Bateman presided over the day with confidence and skill. Steve
had prepared diagrams and even brought a very large rope to demonstrate
knots. We made his Bateman flier, a small fast and maneuverable kite made of
Orcon with a bamboo spine and carbon bow. Everyone was able to complete the
project easily (only a few had to redo some steps!). When we were all done
we headed out to Baylands park and within minutes all the kites were darting
about to the sounds of big kids giggling! Photo

| Feb. 8 | Join me at the Skinners house for
BASKL's spring seminar! Steve Bateman will teach us how to build his
famous fighter kites and then take us out to the park and teach us how to
fly em!! Info can be found at the

| Feb. 2 | Sunday started windless, but by noon was
blowing 10ish and sweet. There were maybe only half as many kiter's there
today. I decided to take it easy and leave the big kites in the car and fly
some easy stuff. Later I took my Wasp out and whacked it for 2 or 3 hours...
felt great! The party broke up around 5. It truly was worth the trip
to play in the sun! Here are

| Feb.1 | The Huntington Beach Kite Party
is a complete blast, we flew in great winds from 9 am till dark!... I
am
beat and my back in killing me so I know I had fun... whacked my Wasp and
had most of my big toys up all day! I have lots of photos and will try
to put them up tomorrow night. I'm thinking I won't be so pooped then!
