May is "San Ramon Kite Month"!

May 27 I'm fried today! Up at 4 am to drop John and Moon at the airport! We had one AWESOME weekend... A BIG thanks to everyone that helped out and flew flew flew, you guys are the greatest...YOU made one the best events ever! I'll try to write more and get my photos up here, but for now here are the Saturday photos John Chilese took... Sunday was a beautiful blue sky and we had a sellout crowd! Dan took lots of photos too, I'll link his when they are up. My photo gallery is up now, but I didn't take many photos......  and none after 2 o'clock on Sunday. I musta been busy!

Mat 25/26 IT'S SAN RAMON WINDFEST WEEKEND!!  We can't all go to Wildwood so San Ramon is next best! Come and spend your Memorial weekend flying kites and playing with some of the best the west has to offer! Its going to be a beautiful weekend with lots to do even for those in the family with no interest (how can that be!) in playing with and watching kites all day. Live music, food booths galore and over 200 arts and crafts booths!  ALL the information is here.  Kitefliers parking password is "Highline kites".

May 20 BASKL is feeling some growing pains of late, don't give up on it, in fact come out to the next one in Martinez and I promise you will find a kinder, "Gentler" BASKL... Come out and see for yourself AND lets HAVE FUN!!

May20 Well, if that isn't the rudest thing!! I ran out of web server space and they cut me OFF which made it impossible to upload anything!! I bought a bunch of space and am back on the air!!!! I wanted to put this link to Dan Whitney's Marina festival 2003 photos last week! Dan does a great job with his camera (it's much better than mine).  He has 4 pages of pictures you can find here.

May  13 The Marina Festival was a great success! There were hundreds and hundreds of people enjoying the kites, live music and foods offered by the vendors. Saturday was the mellower of the two day event and most kites stayed up and behaved, except for a few BOMBER kites! BUT SUNDAY afternoon was frantic, in fact I had to grab all my kites and head for cover! The park was bulging with people... and small kites were zooming everywhere and in every direction!
Even the lawn space around the bandstand (my side of the park) became covered with blankets and chairs and oblivious people settled in for the day long live music. Blankets and chairs set up near the crown and even on top of the bridle lines as it lay on the ground. In the afternoon the kids, (zillions of them) turned into a gang and stopped listening to us and jumped dove on tugged grabbed and dragged any and all ripstop they could get their hands on... all while there parents just watched!  The inmates truly took over the asylum! We will have fun here tho.... and after all isn't an event for them anyway? Here are the pictures for the weekend.

May 10/11 It's Marina kite festival time! I love this small festival come join us for a real casual festival! For detailed information click on this link.

May 4 The Paso Robles event was great fun! Had a good group of invited guests including the Gibians, team "Too Much Fun" and some of the crack of noon bunch from Monterey. Ron and Sandy Gibian took care of the announcing all day and unfortunately never got a chance to fly their beautiful creations. The Park was spanking new and is a huge complex with acres of beautiful green grass several bathroom buildings and two large snack shops, many picnic areas even a small lake... and lots of light poles! Dan and I and Jim Strealy had our own field for the big stuff, and we filled it up ...and spilled out on to other areas as well. the demo field was huge and team to much fun worked it all day. The Park filled up with town folk and hundreds of kites in their own dedicated field!! The day was a fantastic blue sky puffy cloud kinda day after several days of pouring down rain! THE winds however were INLAND winds and quite challenging but we managed it alright and we all had fun... right up till the end! That's when My brand new pilot kite took a turn and flew directly into one of those zillion and a half lights surrounding every field! AND man was it stuck there! Before I could even get to Gary the parks guy with my sad tale he was on the phone with the local fire dept... within minutes TWO huge fire trucks arrives on the scene. Apparently happy to play with their big shinny ladder truck. It was quite a scene for about 30 minutes while they maneuvered the ladder closer and closer till the equipment stopped inching its way nearer and nearer to my hopelessly caught pilot. TOO short to reach!! They poked and pulled with a gaff hook on a 16 foot pole but that kite was not budging....that's when they took out the pole pruner and pruned all the bridle lines from the kite and it floated down to earth... no problem a new bridle will be easy to make! This is the beauty of small towns they really appreciate our efforts, feed us well gave us real nice rooms and brought out the fire dept to help get down my kite!! Here are the pictures for the day.

May 4 I'm headed to the new Paso Robles kite festival at Barney Schwartz Park. Come on out and play!

May 1 April showers brings May flowers? Well bring it on! I'm tired of being wet and want to get out and fly some more!
