For the first trip of the year
I headed to San Diego for the San Diego Kite Clubs annual New Years Day kite
fly!
I hadn't planned on Attending this year, busy and low dough combined with no travel companion I was going to sit this one out. My sister Sharon really wanted to go and play with the fighter gang this year and the offer of some travel money from the club I headed down south in a entire state downpour....man it rained! I was sure we were crazy for even trying . But alas as we neared San Diego the skies started to lighten and it quit raining!! It looked like it was going to be a good day after all!
Friday is the traditional fighter day at Mission Bay park, And when we arrived a bit late...member the rain.. the gang had already started but let Sharon join in anyway and i set about to putting up some kites! First my recently tuned and flying great Manta then the octopus. No sooner had I finished it started to sprinkle the harder then it poured and I scrambled to stuff soaked kites in their bags and run for the car......sigh
In the hotel i made some phone calls to find out where the usual New years gathering was going to be...........I wound up at Rons where the two of us brought n the New Year sitting on the couch making the L sign with our hands on our foreheads.
Unbelievably New Years day dawned bright blue n clear!! whoo hooo off to Mariners Point we headed . Ron likes to get there early and early it was, i think it was the earliest I had ever arrived at an event! Man I had my choice of spots!! I choose and began setting up, birds in the air and sand anchors set, kites n flag lines laid out n waiting for a bit more wind. Course I spent the rest of the day being crowded out by all the other guys that thought MY spot must be the best! that's OK too! I still havin fun.
Great lunch, Awesome auction and good friends a good day indeed. The party that usually happened on Saturday night didn't happen either, so a large group of us went for dinner and talked n laughed till our buts were sore. I heard talk of a dinner party planned for the next day ..... but it seems I have dropped off the A list!
HOMEWARD....Oh My God.......there was so much snow on the grapevine on Monday they closed hwy 5... course I didn't know it till i was stuck in the hell.....it took 5 hours to creep to the place where they were turning back the traffic and make my way back and over to hwy 101......yea you can guess what that was like with all of California's largest interstate freeway's traffic on it, Whooo Hooo were havin fun now! I did make it home safe and sound...oh yea...since I stayed at Rons, no travel dough either! Maybe I'll fly my kites in Berkeley next New Year!
Took few photos, enjoy!
