The Kites over Calaveras
Day was DRY!! Everyone thought it would rain so most of the regular kiters stayed home...DanW, Bryan B even the locals Dennis and Pete didn't show up!   Actually the day was very nice, puffy white clouds scattered around a blue sky...t shirt weather! So I had my own field!!! For a while anyway a couple locals and a guy from Sonora showed up to play. The organizers moved the event to a new location, quit a ways out of town back down hwy 12 to a middle school with 3 huge fields. The wind was better there, and I think it would between better if it weren't between storms. The unstable air made the wind shift from one side of the field to the other making it impossible to have the perfect anchor points!  It would all look good then the wind would shift and DIE and kites were in jeopardy of landing in one of the many trees that lined both sides of the field.. sigh. All in all it was a nice day, met new friends and taught a new enthusiastic how to fly his new kite. Next year they plan to sister up with another event to double the exposure.
