Lands End
The Marin County headlands where the hills
abruptly end at the Bay/ocean
There is a wealth of military defense history scattered all over the hills
facing the Bay and out to sea. In the early1900's they built huge gun (12 inch)
emplacements and more in the early 40's all the guns have been scrapped but the
concrete casements still remain as reminders . Since Dan Whitney and I were out
on Rodeo Beach doing a kite event any way we decided to tour some of the sights
out there. we even found a cute little lighthouse! this area was rich with
forts and coast guard sites there's even a Nike missile site up there.... still
in use today.... I think that's where they keep the wind when its not being used
anywhere else.. MAN it was windy out there
Out there I mean this area is OUTSIDE the golden gate...it was weird looking
back at the Golden Gate bridge
Here are some photos
